Solar panels and national grid?

Question asked by Otis

Is it true that businesses or homeowners using solar panels can sell their excess electricity production back to the government?

response from John Englund

Under the UK government's Feed In Tariff scheme your electricity provider will pay you for each kilowatt of power you generate with your solar panels, and additional money for any excess power generated and returned to the national grid. You’ll need to check with your energy provider to find out how much you can get for excess electricity you generate with your solar panels. In addition, VAT can be claimed back on the purchase of solar panels, and any investment in solar panels may also be subjected to capital allowance.
