What is the definition of biometric access control?

Biometric access control recognises individuals by recognising their physical features. The two most common biometric characteristics used are fingerprints and the iris, but it is also possible to use vein recognition on the retina or the palm of the hand, hand geometry, weight, or even facial features.

Please note, that in order to install a biometric access control device, certain rules set by the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) must be observed, even after the UK has left the EU.

Biometric access control has its limitations (for example when a person ages) and can be combined with another type of access control system (password electronic door lock or card reader) for maximum security.
