How to maintain a water cooler?

Both bottled water coolers and plumbed-in water coolers require regular maintenance so that proper operation and the quality of water dispensed are guaranteed.

The easiest way to make sure this is taken care of is to sign a maintenance contract with a specialised service provider. A technician will be responsible for cleaning the machine, controlling its operation and change faulty or worn parts when needed. This type of contracts usually includes quick interventions in case of breakdown.

This solution is automatically proposed by water cooler leasers, but it may also be chosen independently of a machine purchase, with the water cooler supplier or any other specialised service provider.

Otherwise, the owner of the machine has to take care of this. In this case, it’s better to know about a few rules to keep the machine working and avoid the proliferation of germs. That’s why a maintenance and servicing kit is provided with most water coolers.

Monthly water cooler maintenance and servicing tasks include:

  • Cleaning internal elements: water tank, air filter, tap, cup holder...,
  • Changing water bottles (at least fortnightly),
  • Checking for leaks.

Yearly water cooler servicing and maintenance tasks include:

  • Changing the carbon filter,
  • Descaling the distribution system.
