How good can image quality be with CCTV surveillance cameras?
Of course, it depends on the equipment used:
- Analogue CCTV cameras which use solid cables provide good picture quality, but sometimes it will be difficult to see details in the video,
- Digital or IP cameras have good image resolution, but compressing the video tends to reduce the quality. The most common resolution is 640 x 480 pixels, but some models (IP HD, non-motorised PTZ (Pan-Tilt Zoom) can capture video with a resolution up to 1024 x 768 pixels.
The lens of the CCTV surveillance camera also influences the quality of the final image: CCD sensors offer better resolution than CMOS sensors.
Please note that the quality of lighting is also a factor. The more brightness you have in a room, the more you will avoid the presence of “noise” in your images.
