CCTV surveillance data: what is the retention period?

Technically, it all depends on your hardware and what you do with it.

An analogue camera records video on tapes. If you keep using analogue cameras, then you are limited by the duration of the tape. But, by connecting your analogue camera to a digital recorder, you will be able to keep recordings in another form or even compress them to store more.

With a digital camera, you record videos directly onto a computer, which allows for more storage capacity.

But note that, if you film public traffic in a business, you are prohibited by law from keeping your videos for more “longer than it is strictly necessary” for the intended purpose.
