Is it legal to use CCTV surveillance systems to monitor staff activity?

You can install a CCTV surveillance system in your company to ensure the safety of equipment, but also of people.

However, CCTV surveillance should not be used for the direct surveillance of employees. 

A whole regulatory framework has to be observed in this area. For instance, employees must be aware of the installation of a CCTV surveillance system.

If your company has a works council, let them know. In addition, you cannot install a camera in certain places such as toilets or areas reserved for breaks. Except in special circumstances (handling of cash, for example), direct filming of employees is also prohibited under privacy laws.
